WHAT NOTION AI CAN DO
Notion AI is built directly into the Notion workspace. You can use it anywhere you write — pages, databases, documents. It costs $10/month as an add-on to your existing Notion plan.
The main use cases:
- Write content inside Notion (meeting notes, blog drafts, project docs)
- Summarise long pages with one click
- Improve, shorten, or translate existing text
- Answer questions about your workspace content
- Auto-fill database properties with AI
GETTING STARTED
- Open any Notion page
- Press Space to open the AI menu, or type / and search for AI
- Choose what you want: "Write with AI", "Summarise", "Improve writing", etc.
MOST USEFUL FEATURES
SUMMARISE A PAGE Simply open a long page and click "Summarise" in the AI menu. Works on meeting notes, project docs, research pages. Takes 5 seconds.
DRAFT MEETING NOTES After a meeting, open a new page and use: "Write meeting notes about [TOPIC]. Include: decisions made, action items, and open questions."
Or paste your rough notes and click "Improve writing."
ACTION ITEMS FROM NOTES Paste a meeting transcript or notes and use: "Extract all action items and format them as a task list with checkboxes."
FILL DATABASE PROPERTIES In a content database, Notion AI can auto-fill:
- Category tags (AI reads the content and assigns categories)
- Sentiment (positive/neutral/negative)
- Summary (a one-line description of each entry)
To set this up: open any database property → click the property settings → enable "AI autofill" → write a prompt for what it should generate.
TRANSLATE CONTENT Paste any text and use: "Translate this to [LANGUAGE]" or use the built-in Translate option in the AI menu.
CREATE TEMPLATES WITH AI "Create a template for [TYPE OF DOCUMENT]. Include standard sections and placeholder text for each section."
USE AI IN DATABASE FORMULAS More advanced: use Notion's AI formula feature to generate dynamic AI content in your databases based on other property values.
LIMITATIONS TO KNOW
- Notion AI is not as powerful as Claude or ChatGPT for complex reasoning
- It works best for short tasks (summarise, rewrite, extract)
- It can't browse the internet or access external information
- There's a usage limit (though generous for most users)
BEST USE CASE SUMMARY
Use Notion AI for: tasks you're doing inside Notion anyway (notes, docs, databases) Don't use Notion AI for: anything requiring depth, research, or long-form generation — use Claude or ChatGPT for those and paste the result into Notion.
