MODULE 1: WHAT AI ACTUALLY IS

AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude are large language models (LLMs). They predict the next word in a sequence, trained on enormous amounts of text. They don't "know" things the way you do — they generate statistically likely responses based on patterns in their training data.

What this means practically:

  • They can be wrong with great confidence
  • They're better at some tasks than others
  • The quality of their output depends heavily on how you ask

MODULE 2: YOUR FIRST WEEK PLAN

Day 1: Sign up for ChatGPT (free tier) and have a 10-minute conversation about any topic you know well. Notice where it's accurate and where it makes things up.

Day 2: Use it for one real task: draft an email, summarise an article, explain a concept you've been trying to understand.

Day 3: Sign up for Claude.ai. Do the same task in both and compare the results.

Day 4: Try Perplexity.ai for a research question. Notice how it cites sources.

Day 5: Use AI for something creative — write a poem, plan a trip, brainstorm gift ideas.

MODULE 3: THE MOST USEFUL THINGS AI CAN DO RIGHT NOW

For most people, the highest-value uses are:

  1. First drafts — emails, reports, messages, proposals
  2. Research — understanding topics, finding information, comparing options
  3. Summarising — long documents, articles, meeting notes
  4. Explaining — complex topics in plain language
  5. Brainstorming — ideas, options, solutions to problems

MODULE 4: THE THINGS AI GETS WRONG

  • Recent events (knowledge cutoffs exist)
  • Specific facts, statistics, and numbers (verify these)
  • Your personal situation (it only knows what you tell it)
  • Legal, medical, and financial specifics (always consult a professional)
  • Calculations with complex maths (use ChatGPT's code interpreter for this)

MODULE 5: HOW TO TALK TO AI EFFECTIVELY

The single biggest improvement: add context.

Bad: "Write a bio." Good: "Write a 100-word professional bio for my LinkedIn profile. I'm a freelance graphic designer specialising in brand identity for small businesses. I've been doing this for 5 years. Tone: approachable but professional."

The more you give, the better you get.
